No family functions in isolation from the community. The community shares responsibility with families to provide a safe environment which promotes the optimum development of each member.
F&CS has a strong belief in the value of prevention, early help, and community partnerships and collaboration. We built our “community-based” service model by focusing on a continuum of services ranging from prevention and early help, to family support, to temporary care, and to adoption. This service model is also based on the concept that protecting children is a broad community responsibility that can best be achieved through a network of formal and informal partnerships.
In support of this community-based service model, F&CS has nurtured the development of a number of significant community partnerships over the years. These include the Shelldale Centre, Onward Willow – Better Beginnings, Better Futures, Kindle Communities Inc. and neighbourhood groups. These partnerships provide early help and supports for families to offset the need for more intrusive actions.
F&CS also values its close working relationships with many organizations including CMHA, the Guelph Community Health Centre, the Upper Grand District School Board, the Wellington Catholic District School Board, Wellington County OPP, Guelph Police Services, the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Health Unit, United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin; Wellington County, and the City of Guelph.
