Strategic Directions

We are a proud member of our community, both in the City of Guelph and Wellington County. With a team of caring workers and client focused programs, F&CS is involved with programs which work with parents, youth and children toward one primary goal: ensuring the safety and well being of children. 
 
#1 Child Safety and Well-Being

  • To provide for the safety, protection and well-being of children.
  • To intervene effectively and decisively when children have been harmed or are at risk of serious harm.

#2 Family Support

  • To work with children's families, extended family and kin networks, community resources and other caring members of the community to develop creative solutions to child protection issues.
  • To develop programs and services that will serve to prevent harm to children and to provide early identification and early intervention in situations where children are at risk.

#3 Community Development

  • To promote responsibility for the care and well-being of children throughout the whole community.
  • To provide leadership for neighbourhood-based prevention and support programs.
  • To access community resources in support of children and families in need, including extended families, foster and adopting families, volunteers, and funding.
  • To advocate to strengthen the voice of children in the community.

#4 Looking After Children

  • To ensure good parenting for all children in care.
  • To provide a stable and permanent plan for all children in care.
  • To meet the needs of all children in care, including physical, emotional, educational, cultural, social and spiritual
  • To provide a strong and vibrant foster care program so that children in care are nurtured within families wherever possible and appropriate.

#5 Equity and Inclusion

  • To promote awareness of how people and organizations can be oppressive and to strive for equity, inclusion and respect throughout our practice.
  • To ensure that our structure, policies and services are sensitive to the diverse needs of the children and families we serve and to the communities in which we work.

#6 Quality Assurance, Outcome Measurement and Accountability

  • To achieve and demonstrate excellence in all services, programs and agency systems.
  • To develop practices that focus on achieving positive outcomes for children and families that can be measured and monitored.
  • To be accountable to those we serve, our community partners and our funding partners.

#7 Supportive Environments

  • To create environments that children, families, neighbourhood groups, and partner organizations experience as supportive, responsive and effective.
  • To build a positive organizational culture based on mutual respect, open communication and teamwork.
  • To provide work places that allow staff, foster families and volunteers to do their best work.
  • To support a balanced approach to workplace wellness where employee health is valued and is a component of daily and long term decisions and where all employees take an active role in ensuring their own well-being.
