- Children’s Aid Societies have a strong commitment to accountability and to continually improving their services through the use of data and analysis.
- The three core areas of child welfare work are safety, permanency and well-being and these are reflected in the five publicly reported service performance indicators.
- The vast majority of the work that Children’s Aid Societies do is to keep children safe within their families, focusing on the best interest and well-being of the children. When a child comes into care, our work is centered on supporting the family so that the child can return home safely as soon as possible.
- The Performance Indicator project will enhance opportunity for analysis already undertaken through external research studies such as the Ontario Incidence Study and the Ontario Looking After Children Study, which are conducted by our third-party, academic research partners.
- Through the implementation of a provincial performance measurement and management system, Children’s Aid Societies (CASs) have taken an important step to enhance their accountability and their commitment to better outcomes for the children, youth and families they serve. - Children’s Aid Societies are dedicated to further understanding the results of the data and providing thoughtful insight. This process helps identify areas of service and practice that are working well and the areas that require deeper analysis to improve service outcomes.

Performance Indicators Family & Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County
Family and Childrens Services is a charitable and non-profit agency funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth services. We believe that all children need to be loved and have opportunities which allow them to reach their full potential.
- We employ about 140 staff as front line workers, and as support and administrative staff in our 3 offices
- Our team of professionals handles more than 3,500 referrals a year
- Fewer than 4% of the children and youth in the families we work with come into foster care; 96% remain in the care of their families
- On an average day, we provide care for about 200 children and youth
- During an average year, we place up to 25 children into permanent new homes through adoption
- Our annual budget is just over $20 million (2013-2014)
- We partner with many agencies and groups in the community to help deliver a community based integrated service program
- F&CS has more than 100 volunteers who give nearly 10,000 hours a year toward family focused programs and services
- F&CS is committed to delivering programs and services (in ways, actions and languages) that are respectful, accessible and relevant to all of our community regardless of race, ancestry, colour, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, same-sex partnership status, disability or financial means
