Thank you for your interest in the Volunteer opportunities with F&CS. Volunteers contribute a variety of skills, experience and knowledge that play an important role in the lives of children, youth and families. 

Who can volunteer?

We accept applications from any individual ages 16 and over. Only volunteers 18 and over can volunteer in the following positions; Parent-Aid, Special Friend, Volunteer Driver


A commitment of at least 8 months (please note: due to the sensitive nature of the work, it is important for the children and youth we serve to have consistency and meaningful relationships with volunteers).

Volunteer Opportunities:

Mentors are matched with a child ages 5-12 who need extra support and encouragement and benefit from regular one-to-one time. Volunteers take the child out of their home environment and involve them in a community activity/event. The role can include taking the child to an event and/or accompany them to a sports practice. There may be occasions when the child and volunteer work a project in the child’s home. Volunteers may need to transport the child. This position requires the volunteer to spend 3-4 hours weekly with the child/youth.

Youth Mentors provide one-to-one support to youth (ages 13 and older) with everyday life issues and conflicts and stresses (school, peers, family etc) by spending one-on-one time and provide guidance, a listening ear, advocacy and care. Other areas of support might include; assisting with calls pertaining to school, work etc and attending meetings, assisting the youth with moving; pick up and drive truck, load and unload items,  This position requires the volunteer to spend 3-4 hours weekly with the child/youth.

Parent-Aides are partnered with a parent/guardian to provide on-going, weekly support and guidance, provide emotional support, practical skills (i.e. budgeting, cooking, organization skills) and assist with parenting skills. This position requires the volunteer to spend 3-4 hours weekly with the parent/guardian.

Drivers provide transportation for children and families involved with the agency; to and from school, court, medical appointments, etc. There is a high demand for drives in rural areas. A drivers abstract and copy of insurance is required.

Tutor/Homework Support: volunteers support a child/youth with homework, working on a school project, assistance with test and exam preparation, ongoing support with curriculum.

Childcare Assistants provide childcare in a family’s home to give the parent/guardian a break. Interact with the children through play, crafts, activities and games. Some childcare volunteers assist with childcare for parents/guardians who are attending groups on site, meetings, case conferences etc. Volunteers will engage children through play, crafts and activities.
